Hard Rock Bet Launches in Ontario, Marking First International Move
Hard Rock Bet is now live in Ontario. Hard Rock Digital, the parent company, flipped the switch Thursday, July 22. For the first time, the brand's online casino and sportsbook are open to Canadian players. It's a big step for the operator, which had only operated inside US borders before.
The choice of Ontario isn't random. Hard Rock already runs a hotel and casino in Ottawa, giving the company a physical foothold in the province. Ontario bettors can now download the Hard Rock Bet app on Apple or Android devices, or play through a desktop browser. The platform offers more than 3,000 casino games plus a full sportsbook.
Marlon Goldstein, CEO and executive managing director of Hard Rock Digital, said the Ontario version was built specifically for that market. "Expanding into Ontario with Hard Rock Bet marks the first time we've brought our platform to an audience outside the US," Goldstein said in a release. "We're excited to introduce Ontario players to a premium entertainment experience that reflects the energy and service synonymous with the Hard Rock brand. And by investing in local talent, local partnerships, and localized customer support, we're creating an experience designed specifically for Ontario players."
Ontario joins New Jersey and Michigan as places where Hard Rock Bet's online casino is available. Its sportsbook operates in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia. The platform is also Florida's exclusive legal online betting option, thanks to the Seminole Tribe's compact with the state. In every location, including Ontario, players can get Legendary Reward Drops, a weekly rewards program with guaranteed prizes and promotions.
The Ontario launch is fully integrated into Unity by Hard Rock. That means players can earn Unity Points and exchange them for digital rewards on the HRB Reward Store. It's the same loyalty system used in US markets.
What about Alberta? On July 13, Alberta became the second Canadian province to open its online gambling market to commercial operators. It's also the only North American jurisdiction to expand its online gambling market in 2026. Hard Rock Bet hasn't said whether it plans to enter that province. A Hard Rock Digital spokesperson told Gambling Insider it's too early to share any details. "We're thrilled about the launch of Hard Rock Bet in Ontario. No shareable insights yet — it's barely been 24 hours — but we're proud of the operational execution to get our top-rated platform live for the first time outside the United States."
On Alberta, the spokesperson said the company's focus is "entirely on delivering a great experience for players in Ontario." The spokesperson called Ontario an "important milestone for the business." Hard Rock Digital plans to roll out "expanded marketing campaigns and creative assets in early August" to build on launch momentum.
The launch comes at a politically sensitive time. President Donald Trump's repeated talk of making Canada the 51st state, along with punishing tariffs, has driven many Canadians to avoid US travel. Prime Minister Mark Carney's "elbows up" strategy has amplified that sentiment. Statistics Canada reported a 25% drop in Canadian travel to the US in 2025. University of Toronto researchers, using cellphone data, pegged the decline at nearly 42%. Some of that trend has reversed recently, partly due to the World Cup, but Trump's renewed 51st state threats and plans for even higher tariffs could push the boycott back up. US operators entering Canada directly, rather than waiting for Canadians to cross the border, is one way to work around the friction.
